About

Miranda J Caird is a full-time New Zealand artist who began selling her work in 2003. Painting quickly became a full-time vocation, driven by her deep connection to the land and sea. Her studio — a small bach at Whale Bay, Raglan — overlooks the ocean, offering the solitude and inspiration she needs to immerse herself in the creative flow, free from deadlines and distractions.

Rather than focusing on solo exhibitions, Miranda has chosen to work as a stock artist, sending her paintings directly to galleries and collectors. Over 1,500 originals have found homes throughout New Zealand and around the world.

Her paintings have featured on the cover of Contemporary New Zealand Art calendars, and she has received awards, including an Open Class Award at the Waimarino Art Awards and a Merit Award at the Great Waikato Art Show. Miranda has also completed residencies with the Mackenzie Country Arts Council and at Arthur’s Pass Alpine Motel. In recent years, she has expanded her practice to produce her own archival giclée prints.

Miranda has been influenced by many New Zealand landscape painters, including Rita Angus, Don Binney, and Robin White. She holds formal training in art, having majored in the subject at the Wellington College of Education, and has undertaken short-term courses and workshops through private providers such as Inverlochy Art School in Wellington and  also the Waikato Society of Arts. However, much of her development as an artist has come through personal exploration — a continual process of learning, refining, and discovery within her studio practice.

"I am conscious that my paintings are not fleeting decorations but enduring companions in a home. Their archival quality and lasting presence allow them to continue shaping mood, inspiring reflection, and bringing tranquility and vibrancy to the spaces they inhabit for years to come."
